Unlike traditional premium ice cream, Gelato contains 1/3 less calories and butter fat. Contrasting ice cream, gelato's primary ingredient is milk instead of the heavy fat content of cream. Besides the obvious health related benefits Gelato is a lighter product, the low butter fat content does not block taste buds; thus the richness of flavors are more pronounced along with the a concentrated creaminess.

Heaven on earth! That's exactly how I would describe the gelato at Aunt Lena's Creamery. Ok, I'll admit . . . I've always been a die hard ice cream girl, thinking that gelato and frozen yogurt were just inferior imitations of the "real" stuff. And while the jury is still out on the whole yogurt thing, Aunt Lena's has definitely changed my mind about gelato. It is sooooo good! Aunt Lena’s Creamery ROCKS and if you don’t believe me, take this as a challenge to go there and try it yourself. I cannot express just how wonderful their gelato and sorbeto is. I was sure that Weight Watchers was going to come between me and Aunt Lena’s as the summer drew to a close. In fact, I am sure it was the thought of being kept from my frozen fix that kept me from joining sooner. Imagine how excited I was to discover that I could stick with my dieting plan AND have my sorbeto for a mere 2 points (that is great stuff for those of you unfamiliar with the Weight Watchers program)! If I choose, I can splurge a little and get a gelato for twice the points (the cannoli or chocolate dipped cherry flavors are to die for). Truth be known, however, my most favorite is to get a split (yep, 2 flavors in one cup!) of the blood orange and lime sorbeto. You won’t believe how great it tastes and it is virtually guilt free. Hmmmm. When was the last time you ever heard of anything like that?
